I read Death of Vishnu several years ago and although I was a bit lost with some of the mythology in that book, I was still enthralled by the story. Novels structured around buildings are an enduringly compelling literary sub-genre. The book also contains the author's version of the Krishna Avatar at the start of each chapter from the birth to the death of Vishnu's 8th Avatar. The City of Devi is only available in 2013, so in the meantime you can read the other two novels. Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things, Manil Suri's The Death of Vishnu, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, The Dive from Clausen's Pier, Ann Packer.
